The Best LED TV of 2011 and 2012

The standard cathode-ray tube (CRT) television is outdated. In fact, any 4-inch television is unacceptable in present people’s lifestyle. What’s in today is how thin your television sets can be. There have been the Plasma TV, LCD TV, and HDTV, which upgraded television technology. And now, another year has begun; another world of possibilities awaits television geeks. The latest backlighting technology for televisions is the light-emitting diode or simply called the LED TV.

Why shift from the standard LCD TV to LED TV?

The light-emitting diode light source enables television sets to have thinner flat panel and brighter displays—even thinner and brighter than LCD TVs. In fact, a LED TV is a perfect choice of wall-mounted television sets. In addition, LED TVs promote lower power consumption up to 30%, greater dynamic contrast for images, better heat dissipation, wider dimming range, and less environmental pollution.

Aside from the internal features mentioned earlier, high-end LED TVs are manufactured together with advanced connection supports such as HDMI inputs for Ethernet, PC, and other component functions. Viewers may watch movies or preview photos saved on a USB or a memory card and may even access Wi-Fi. However, the price of LED TVs may intimidate those who are on a limited budget. Each unit cost not lower than $1000, depending on the brand.

The CNET.com released its review of the best LED TV in 2011. The spot was given to Sharp Elite PRO-X5FD LED TV. The iconic television model of Sharp, Elite, brings amazing state-of-the-art television engineering and design features such as brushed aluminum finish, precision cut mitered bezel, connectivity to Netflix®, VUDU™, CinemaNow™, YouTube®, and Skype™, 3D functionality, Elite Advantage LiveSM, THX® Certified display, and ISF® (Imaging Science Foundation) certification. The package includes two sets of active shutter 3D glasses. Although the CNET.com review asserts that it is an overpriced unit—costing around $4,799.99—it is by far the best overall picture quality of any TV the site has reviewed since 2008.

This year 2012, television consumers expect the best LED TV from Sony, the HX850 series. It is not an ordinary Sony TV, but an edge-lit LED Internet TV. It features Full HD 1080p in 2D and 3D, X-Reality PRO Engine with 3D Super Resolution, Motionflow XR 960 technology, thin bezel with Monolithic design and Gorilla Glass, built-in WiFi, and Sony Entertainment Network and apps access. Consumers may choose between two television sizes: 47-inch or 55-inch. Sony has not yet released the price range of its latest HX-Series.
