Who doesn’t know Clark Kent’s story from Smallville? What about the hilarious yet inspiring stories of a group of men and women of FRIENDS? Who doesn’t become enslaved by Buffy, The Vampire Slayer or touched by the surreal family bond of the Camdems from 7th Heaven? Or what about the mind-blowing investigative resolutions of the city’s heinous crimes shown in CSI: Miami? These are just few of the popular and most watched television series produced in the United States.
Television shows are part of our everyday lives — if you are among those who watch television on a regular basis. At present, even teenagers are hooked on these kinds of television series and are given a vast selection of genres to watch. It seems that anywhere around the world, people are familiar with these television shows and know by heart the characters portrayed. The most popular television shows of today’s generation are One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Supernatural, Bones, Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, The Modern Family, Prison Break, and a ton more.
All the while, I thought people were only concerned to know the new released and most watched television shows of the year, but surprisingly, I read through an online forum that discusses the “unknown TV shows.” It sounded odd to me at first but I came to learn that the term “unknown” refers to those TV shows that either released their first season but were cancelled before a final season was plotted and never made it to global recognition or those that exist but are not often talked about. I thought about these things and soon came up with a list of my three best unknown TV shows.
- The Unusuals. Unlike most detective investigative-related TV series that are action-packed and drama-filled, The Unusuals depicts the story of dysfunctional cops inside NYPD’s Second Precinct addressed with a mixture of drama and comedy. The show premiered on April 8, 2009 on ABC and was cancelled mid-May 2009 due to low ratings.
- The Community. Another American comedy TV set in the fictional Greendale Community College, The Community narrates about how different individuals with strangely opposing personalities, interests, and culture in a study group coalesce themselves, learn to appreciate each one’s uniqueness, and eventually become friends. The show premiered on September 17, 2009 on NBC and is still running now into its third season.
- The Hard Times of RJ Berger. RJ Berger, an average high school sophomore, had hard times dealing with high school life — all aspects of it, love relationships, self-esteem, desires, friendship. He believes that he is cursed for life because of his mishaps. Released on MTV on June 6, 2010, The Hard Times of RJ Berger brings everyone back to high school, when almost everyone went through a teenage crisis.
If you’re looking for some new and interesting shows to watch that not many people know about then you might want to check out any of the 3 I just mentioned. The Unusuals might be hard to find but any of them are worthwhile if you can get a hold of them.
